Congratulations to the new rector of the UPC

Francesc Torres has been elected as the new rector of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) with 53.28% of the votes. Torres will take over from the former Rector Crespo, who had held the position since June 2021 and who has obtained 36.16% of the support.

An experienced Rector

Francesc Torres was rector of the UPC from December 2017 to June 2021. He was also director of the Department of Signal Theory and Communications from 2013 to 2017.

Born in Sant Joan de Labritja (Eivissa) in 1962, he is a telecommunications engineer (1988) from the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSEIB). He also holds a PhD (1992) from the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at the UPC. Here he carries out his teaching and research tasks. He has been a university professor since 2010 in the field of radiocommunications, high-frequency circuits and Earth observation.

Six years of government ahead

Since the entry into force of Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, on the University System, the terms of office of the new rector are six years. Therefore, it is interesting to consider the program of the new rector’s team.
